If you’re a tradesperson or work outside, then you’ll soon realise that your workplace isn’t a nice office, and that a suit isn’t going to be appropriate work clothing.

So what should you wear and what do you need?

1. A Polo shirt is a smart choice, as it gives a much more professional image than a T shirt. Why not get your polo shorts branded into corporate workwear so that all your team look just as smart and presentable?

2. Trousers should be smart as well as functional, and if you want to make the right impression, probably shouldn’t be jeans. Why not treat yourself to some appropriate work trousers, or work trousers with knee pads if you need them?

3. If you work outside that you’ll know the importance of wearing a hat when it’s cold. You might need to wear a safety helmet as well, but you’ll want to keep warm as well as safe.

4. Gloves are important in cold weather too, as you can’t work if you can’t feel your hands. Depending on the industry you work in, you may need a glove liner, or want fast drying gloves.

5. You shouldn’t forget your feet in cold weather. Socks should be given jus as much consideration as the other items of clothing you wear. You might need socks for extremely hot or cold conditions, or need your socks to be flame retardant. What about buying your socks in bulk?

6. Waterproof workwear is vital for those who work outside, and who can’t stop working just because it’s raining. You’ll need to make sure that you can still work, and that if you get wet, you won’t get cold.

7. Base layers are perfect for both hot and cold days, and ensure that you are the right temperature so that you can work properly. Efficient and effective base layers will wick away moisture from the skin to regulate body temperature.

8. Fleece layers are ideal to wear over a polo shirt when you need some warmth. They are lightweight and can be very warm. They are also not too restrictive when you need to work.

9. Work jackets can be worn over a fleece, and will provide additional warmth and protection from the wind when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

10. Kneepads, belts and tool holders can make your job much easier, if you need to kneel down, or have lots of tools and accessories with you whilst working. You don’t want to have to climb down a ladder, or go back to the van to get a pencil, paintbrush or screwdriver.

Now you know what items of work clothing you’re likely to need, why not get organised, and get right the workwear for the job.
