If you are looking for a water resistant watch, it is important to determine its water resistance rating, which can be found on the case or in the product information if you are purchasing online. Many people may be confused in understanding the ratings since there are three ways to record the water resistance: bar, atmosphere and meter, and 1 Bar = 1 Atmosphere = 10m. Professional divers should use dive watches that are specially designed for them since most of the water resistance watches can not endure to be taken to the depth as indicated on the case. In addition, some watches that are recorded as “water resistant” have only minimal resistance, and they are not suitable to wear when you are washing up since they will be splash proof. Watch with a rating of at least 30 m is a good choice for those people who want to wear it when doing everyday tasks such as showering. The watches that are suitable for swimming are rated at 50m or 5 atmosphere, however, they are not suitable for other professional underwater sports since the pressure of impact with the water would be higher than 5 atmosphere, and a 100 m rating watch would be a good choice. If you want to find a watch that is suitable for most water sports, then a 200 m water resistant class would be the best choice. There are some helpful tips to maintain water resistant watches. It is important to screw down and press in the buttons and stems correctly, otherwise the function would be compromised. In addition, the watch pressure should be tested to ensure whether the water resistance function has been maintained after the battery is changed.
