Plaid shorts are all over the streets of New York. There is no getting around it. Even elderly men have taken up wearing plaid as it is the one youth fashion movement that they feel is not such as terrible thing. It is annoying enough to see that many are sporting plaid shorts without giving a second thought to why they feel the need to dress in such a way. Where has all the personal choice gone in fashion today?
What pushed me over the edge was seeing a photo of James Hetfield, leader of Metallica, wearing plaid shorts while carrying an Armani bag. This is the guy who got his face burned by fireworks during a concert and came back 17 days later to perform. He has maintained a constant image of being a tough guy with a loud guitar for the past 20 years and then he goes and joins in on wearing plaid shorts like everyone else. Of course his image among his fans had already taken a hit with the P2P witch hunt, which he led, estranging his most die-hard fans in the process.
Being seen in public wearing plaid shorts that are definitely not in-line with his image make him look like a complete fake. He obviously has the right to go shopping and get whatever he wishes, but it is another thing to do things completely contrary to your image such as wear plaid shorts because they are fashionable. A guy like James Hetfield should not be worried about whether he is fashionable or not.
The worse thing is that he decides to wear plaid shorts at a time when they have already been in style for quite some time. He is not ahead of any trends. He is following the plaid shorts trend. If he is trying to be fashionable he should have at least started wearing plaid shorts before everyone and his mother was wearing them.
Al Keser is a New York clothing fashionista, journalist, and video producer. He recommends RAG New York for any plaid shorts purchases, because if you are going to follow the crowd at least do it on the cheap.
