They torture those browsing the shoe departments or online catalogues of well-known department stores looking at high heel works of art. The first thing a flat wearer notices is the effect that a fashionable pair of high heels has that elevates their stature and also their height.

The main reason for buying flat shoes in the first place is because the balance needed to support high heels is not there due to broken foot bones or a weak ankle.

Flat shoes have just as much style as high heels. For example, a pair of Antonio Melani flats have the feel of soft leather in a classic design that goes well with a dress or skirt and blouse.

Buying them in navy, red or black adds a sense of comfort as well as style, they are moderately priced and go well with a pair of dress pants and also with jeans. Even some trendy shoe designers have transferred their shoe art to flats, they are pricy but give the flat wearer a sense of being connected to the world of high fashion.

Audrey Hepburn introduced ballet flats with skinny jeans in nineteen fifty-seven in the movie “Funny Face.” These days, ballet flats are found in every department store and boutique in a range of colors. Depending upon the designer, they cost anywhere from forty dollars to almost a week’s pay. They look great with longer skirts and straight leg pants.

Mary Jane shoes bring back girlhood memories of wearing them with frilly dresses and straw hats on Easter Sunday. Well, they are now in big girl styles in leather or patent leather that looks fashionable worn with almost anything. They are also reasonably priced or very expensive depending upon the choice of leathers and styles.

For the flat wearer, comfort is considered the most important aspect of buying a pair of them before settling upon a style. These days, flats have become a fashion statement and with more shoe designers adding them to their collections maybe the rest of the fashion world will finally come down to that level without losing their sense of balance.
