Have you ever wondered how you could acquire a whole new wardrobe without even venturing to the shops? Well, read on because the answer is to organize and host a clothes swapping party.

We have all bought clothes that just do not fit our body shape and are in shades that don’t do justice to our skin colour, and so never get worn. Most of us probably also have a neat collection of items that we are keeping since we might just wear them sometime in the future! The first thing to do is to go through your wardrobe, shoes and accessories thoroughly to weed out any items that fit into these categories. Be ruthless, if you don’t like something or have not worn it for at least two years then put it in your swap pile.

Next ring round all your friends giving them a date for your party and then persuade them to clear out their wardrobes as well. Do remind them to make sure all their clothes are in good condition and have been thoroughly washed.

Now for a fun and sociable evening of girly gossip and new clothes. You can’t really lose. You will hopefully find loads of great new items from your friends and you will be helping them to look fabulous in your clothes. You will be breathing new life into each other’s wardrobes.

Despite the pleasure of buying a new outfit in the shops there is something very satisfying about finding a new way to wear something old. If you are lucky, you will find some new clothes and accessories from your friends that, with a little know-how, you can put together to revamp and give a new twist to your old outfits. Knowing which colours and styles work best for you and how to put them together is the key to making the most of your clothes swopping party.

However, it isn’t always easy looking at your wardrobe in a fresh light so why not get a little professional help in? To help you economise and make new outfits out of old ones, an image consultant offering wardrobe weeding and colour analysis will help you re-work your wardrobe to suit you and your budget.

Caroline Husbands is a Senior Style Consultant with Colour Me Beautiful. Services include colour analysis, make-up lessons and full image consultations.
