Looking good is very important for most of us, which is why we take extra pains in choosing the right outfit for any event we attend, whether it is a formal dinner or a niece’s garden birthday party. As a final touch to any outfit, it is also important to wear the right scent for the occasion. For this reason, many people believe it is quite acceptable to splurge on designer perfume every once in a while.

Apply Your Scent Strategically

There are certain types of clothing that look good on the store mannequin but will appear drab and mediocre once you put it on. It’s the same way with most designer perfumes. It won’t matter how expensive or critically acclaimed a scent is. Unless you apply it the right way, it won’t deliver the kind of result that you expect of it. In order to maximize the effects of designer perfumes, you have to follow these simple rules of application.

1. Less is more. Don’t make the common mistake of assuming that the more you spray, the better you will smell. Instead, apply prudently on strategic areas such as the throat and the insides of the wrists. This way, you will exude a subtle but distinctive scent that is much more effective than spraying liberally all over your body, which will not only result in a repugnant odor but will be a waste of your expensive perfume as well.

2. After several minutes, it is only natural that you will stop smelling your own perfume but it won’t mean that the scent has worn off already. Most designer perfumes will actually last for several hours so avoid spraying too frequently.

3. Spritz lightly on strategic areas of the body when going on a date. If you expect some romantic action during the course of your date, it would be to your advantage to dab some perfume on tactical areas of the body like your neck and shoulders. This will surely make your romantic night even more memorable.

4. Wear a designer perfume that suits the occasion and environment. The right kind of scent will not only make you more attractive, but it can also set the mood for any occasion. For instance, if you are going out with friends or your partner on a dark, gloomy day, you can apply a few spritzes of fresh blossom scent for a burst of sunshine. On the contrary, you can dab some musk to inspire warmth during a brisk autumn evening.

5. Use a blend of two different scents. When using designer perfume, people usually limit themselves to just one kind of fragrance. However, applying varying scents on different parts of your body can result in a delightful mix of fragrances that your companion will certainly appreciate.

Know When to Avoid Wearing Perfume

Regardless of how fragrant your perfume might be, there are actually several instances when you must absolutely avoid wearing them. Spraying yourself with certain scents inappropriately can make people shy away from you during particular events, and it may even mar your social standing in some circles.

1. Before applying your favorite scent, consider the type of impression you want to leave on the people you are meeting with.

2. Avoid wearing perfume if you are going to stay in an enclosed area with several other people. Instead of impressing your companions with your taste in perfume, you might as well end up suffocating them.

3. Be sensitive to your companions, especially if you are going to be with people you are not very close with. Some of them might have asthma or allergies that can be triggered by your perfume.

4. Animals can react negatively to designer perfumes. Some creatures might interpret your smell as an attack, in which case they might become hostile and attack you. Plants may also be damaged by the chemicals in your perfume. You probably won’t cause their instantaneous demise but it would be best to avoid wearing perfumes if you are going to be in the vicinity of sensitive vegetation.

5. If you are going to be interviewed by a prospective employer, try to avoid wearing perfume as well. You want to be remembered for your qualifications and not for your taste in designer perfume. Applying perfume should also be avoided when going in for a medical checkup, especially if you are to undergo certain examinations like x-rays or an MRI.

Designer perfumes can certainly leave an impression on the people around you, but it is essential that you learn the proper way of applying them so that can really work to your advantage.

summary

Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils and aroma compounds. Used for centuries, perfumes have become an essential accessory for fashion. Like wearing heels, there is a time to wear it and a time to forgo wearing it. Here are some tips for finding the fragrance that is best for you and some common sense pointers on when it is appropriate and when it is not.
