When one talks about linen and its resurrection in today’s world then one cannot leave behind the fact that linen has today become a fashion trend and coveted choice of fabric for all.

Linen suits have become the newest thing to take the world of men’s fashion by storm. One of the reasons can be - Linen has that subtle understated elegance about it. So someone who can carry off a linen suit exudes those qualities From the plain staid greys to the earthy browns and beiges, men linen suits took the men’s world by storm. It has today transgressed from the world of being a casual wear fabric to something that can be seen in boardrooms and formal occasions like weddings.

However, when it comes to formal wear then the biggest disadvantage that linen suits face is that they tend to crease easily. So how do we tackle this problem? Firstly follow the care instructions. Because often the care instructions will come based on the degree linen was pre-shrunk, composition of thread and trimmings, dyes used, treatments for crease or stain resistance, tightness of weave and construction of the textile. Then of course is the next important factor of storing linen suits in such a manner that the vulnerable areas like the collar and other such permanent folds are not folded. This ensures lesser fraying due to folds. Also try and use linen garment bags for storing them. This will ensure that the suit can breathe and not lead to mildew which can easily attack linen otherwise.

Italian and Irish linen are the two best regarded types of linen used in the making of linen suits and blazers. One because Irish linen has history on its side and two because it is considered superior and heavier thus making it ideal for weaving suits. It also has the added advantage of being less-wrinkles prone. Being a natural fabric it works best with other natural fabrics like silk and cotton. When matching a shirt to your linen suit, play it safe, and choose a long-sleeve cotton, silk or linen shirt in a color that best complements or contrasts the suit. Ties aren’t necessary with a linen suit, but if you do wear one, go with a summery one. Word of advice - avoid wearing it as a regular office suit. It is just not crafted to handle so much of wear and tear and will end up looking extremely disheveled. Keep it instead for a summer wedding to attend or a beach side formal gathering and wow the gathering with your subtle uber cool sense of style.
