If you’re on a budget but your children are growing faster than you can keep up with them, you’ll need some way to keep them in clothes, without breaking the bank. Why not consider these 5 ways to see if you can save money when you buy clothes.
1. Shop smart. Depending on the sort of clothes you are buying, you won’t need to worry about buying last season’s colours or styles. School uniform or clothes for special occasions won’t really date. Plain T shirts, school shirts, underwear and more can often be better value if bought in bulk, or as 3 for 3 offers. If it’s an item of clothing you would have bought anyway, why not save money at the same time?
2. Knitting can be a really useful way of saving money on jumpers, gloves, scarves, cardigans, baby clothes and much more. If you need inspiration, or are learning to knit from scratch, why not consider using knitting patterns? You’ll find lots of ideas for all the family, and you might even save a fortune. If you sew, perhaps you can alter or repair old clothes, or clothes that don’t fit any more, and give them a new lease of life.
3. Online auctions can be a great place to bag a bargain. Children’s clothes are often extremely cheap in comparison to new. This is a really good way to save money, especially if you know that your children will soon grow out of them, or they want a particular item of clothing for a school production.
4. The classified adverts in the local paper can be a good place to look if you are looking for children’s clothes or baby clothes, or sometimes even things for yourself. As the seller will be local, there will be no postage charges, or waiting for the parcel to arrive.
5. Buy style rather than fashion. Stylish clothes, or clothes that will go with anything, and will last for years are a much better option than choosing very fashionable clothes that will soon go out of fashion and be unwearable. By choosing safe colours and designs you are sure to get the most of the clothes you buy. Also, by making sure that the clothes are not fashionable, they can easily be passed on once your children have outgrown them.
It’s not as hard or as expensive as you might think to buy clothes for your children. Why don’t you see if you can find a bargain in the high street, online or in the wool shop?
