And for that very reason, many of us are now spending extra time and money looking for clothes that meet basic environmental standards. Not just those standards that involve the use of naturally grown yarn but also in terms of the way in which employees are treated and the wages they get paid for their efforts.
Helping us meet our own ethical standards are designers and manufacturers who are committing themselves to cleaner practices. They play a very important part in getting ordinary people to accept green fashion products because, you have to admit, not many would buy a product that doesn’t have visual appeal.
Today, hemp, organic cotton or even organic silk and jute aren’t synonymous with stiff and uncomfortable clothing but elegant and soft material that can be turned into chic outfits good enough for the fashion runway. And that’s exactly what upcoming designers are giving the world.
Take Leanne Elroy for instance, this designer from Canada has been working with eco friendly materials and has been trying to change people’s perceptions about environmentally friendly clothes. Her entire range of clothes, from dresses to blazers is made from “socially responsible” material. And she shows how you can easily make the switch without having to sacrifice your sense of style or fashion. Go through her website and you’ll immediately see how this young lady brings the very material to life with her designs and details, without using any bold or flashy motifs.
Her fashion label Elroy was launched in 2007 just in time for the fall season. But Leanne’s fashion story started long before that at the age of 13. She began to design and sew her own outfits often receiving compliments from friends. So deciding on a field of study wasn’t hard. She received the Designer of the Year award upon graduation and then took up a job alongside a well-reputed designer, traveling all over the world, experimenting and selling her clothes to small boutiques.
The launch of her label Elroy soon brought her success and Leanne began taking her clothes all around Canada through the various fashion shows. Since then she’s earned herself a spot in the heavily competitive world of fashion, carving out a niche for herself in the eco-friendly clothes market.
You can now find her clothes in thirty different outlets across Canada, the United States of America and France. Those of you who’ve checked out her green fashions but don’t live in the above mentioned countries can always buy her clothes online. She always has a good number of classy outfits on sale.
