The holidays are probably the most anticipated times of the year. This is also a typical time where many people can expect a number of invitations for social gatherings. A good example would be an office Christmas party or an annual company party, two of the most common occasions held in a year at the workplace.

Different folks have different sentiments about office parties, depending largely on one’s point of view. For some people, partying with their coworkers and superiors is no big deal, while others would rather take the day off.

Company parties can be quite complicated situations to deal with. Though you’re supposed to enjoy yourself, at the back of your mind, you cannot shrug off the fact that you would still be bound by certain rules. No matter how fun or wild the party is, you cannot ignore that your superiors are there, and one wrong move can instantly cost your reputation or career. That being said, it would be a good thought to limit your alcohol intake when you’re at such a social function.

Regardless of your feelings, should you decide to go, one of the things you’ll surely prepare for is your attire. Many people are likely to worry about what to wear for such events, and wouldn’t mind too much to spend time, money, and effort to shop for a handsome apparel.

But how exactly do you dress yourself during holiday gatherings such as this?

First, be sure you know the attire required for the party, which is usually announced ahead of time.

Different companies hold different kinds of parties. Sometimes, they even change themes each year to make it more exciting. If it’s fancy, like a child’s themed birthday party, you are likely to dress accordingly. Of course, it’s a fun way to exercise your creativity. Head on, think of an appropriate costume to wear. Scout novelty stores, or better yet, do your own.

You can also get ideas from what others would be wearing. So in this case you won’t get lost - being careful not to be overdressed or under-dressed. For costume parties however, it’s best to play safe. You can play fun and safe at the same time, just dress decently. Don’t bare too much skin, that is. And never wear anything that may offend someone else’s religion or ethnicity.

If your invitation indicates black tie or black tie optional, prepare your tuxedo accordingly. Together with your white dress shirt, black silk bow tie, lapel, dress socks, and patent dress shoes.

Other than that, suit and tie are common for most parties. Dark color suit, like dark gray, or navy blue is good. Black shoes and socks are ideal. You can wear brown if your suit is also brown.

You can choose to wear other light colored shirts instead of white. Match it with a colored silk tie of bright hues. Make sure it compliments the rest of the suit. And lastly, finish it off with shiny studs or accessories, like cufflinks. Keep it simple to achieve the cool, classy, conservative look.
