As the air turns cooler and the leaves start to fall we start reaching for warmer sweaters and thicker coats. Whether you love or hate winter you can’t avoid it, and with the right clothing it is going to be so much easier to enjoy this chilly time of year.

One piece of country clothing that has never gone out of fashion is the classic wax jacket. These jackets are made from wax-impregnated cotton, which is low maintenance and hard wearing with a warm lining. Wax jackets are available for men and women and look great whether shopping in town or taking relaxing country walks with the dog. Wax jackets are both waterproof and warm and will last for years; they actually get better with age! Whether you prefer long or short jackets, there are a wide variety of styles to suit all tastes.

For something to go under your coat, nothing comes close to a 100% lambswool sweater for keeping you warm and cosy. Lambswool is a natural product that has stood the test of time and is as good today as it ever has been for keeping warm and being breathable. There are so many designs for both men and women from stylish cable knit jumpers to traditional cardigans.

Another item of country clothing we cant live without during the winter months are a reliable pair of Wellington boots. When it gets muddy underfoot or snowy there is nothing as reassuring as wellies. Today, Wellingtons are a far cry from the green or black wellies many of us will remember from our childhood. You can now choose from hundreds of trendy and colourful styles to really get you noticed.

If you are serious about your country walks then invest in a good pair of walking boots. Ankle walking boots will ensure you ankle is supported and your feet stay dry, warm and comfortable all day long. Many walking boots are stylish enough to wear around town to make the most of your investment.

Apparently you can lose up to 75% of your body heat through your head, so if your feet are still cold get yourself a hat. Hats not only keep you warm but also in recent years have come back as a big fashion statement. For ladies the warm and cosy Kosak style hat will finish any outfit or try a stylish waxed hat to keep the rain out but still look feminine. No well-dressed country gent would be without his flat cap. Today they still come in the tradition tweed style or update the look with a leather flat cap.

Nauticalia offer a full range of classically styled and comfortable country clothing.
