True Cashmere wool comes from the Cashmere goat. These goats traditionally come from the Kashmere region of India but they can also be found in other areas of Asia. The best of the wool is harvested from the back of the goat’s neck as this has proved to be the softest due to it being best protected from the elements.

Once the wool is harvested, it is spun into the finest yarn. It is silky to the touch and is fashioned into various garments that are normally quite thin. Because of this thinness they make excellent clothes for layering and are much better at keeping warmth in then sheep’s wool.

This is one of the finest natural yarns you can use for making clothing and this is what makes it expensive. You couldn’t just pop into the English countryside and pick yourself out a Cashmere goat the way you could a sheep with wool for jumpers.

Cashmere clothing needs to be handled with care. It is strong but needs the right looking after to stay in the best condition. Hand-wash cashmere clothing with a detergent particularly for delicate materials and do not spin or tumble dry. Do not use fabric softeners either. Taking care of your woollens like this will leave you enjoying the garments for years to come.

Cashmere clothing is usually made into timeless pieces as it lasts so well. Jumpers and cardigans for men and women are popular among all age groups. They are warm and comfortable and are usually made in block colours so they are easy to team with just about anything.

Cashmere clothing can be dressed down with jeans for a casual feel or worn with suit trousers for the more formal appearance. They are comfortable over shirts or t-shirts but there is nothing quite like the feel of Cashmere against your skin!

Cashmere clothing also comes in ranges for children. Again, this is a very good fabric for your child. It is unlikely to irritate the skin and is great when you don’t want to feel bulky with lots of clothes to keep warm. Cashmere has the added benefit of actually being quite cool to wear in the summer. A lightweight cashmere cardigan to throw on during a summers evening is perfect.

There are also plenty of cashmere accessories available. Scarves, gloves and hats made from Cashmere are ideal for British winters. They are inherently warm but lightweight. They also have a quality to their look that you just don’t get with sheep’s wool. Sheep’s wool is much cheaper than Cashmere but it just doesn’t have the same class.

So, as we see, it is the best natural fabric but still, is it worth the cost? Well, how much can you expect to pay for true Cashmere clothing?

Approximately 60 pounds will get you a one hundred per cent pure Cashmere woman’s jumper and up to around one hundred pounds for a man’s jumper. To be honest, even in our economic climate, that isn’t bad. Of course, you could always pick up a nylon jumper down the market for 15 pounds but I bet it doesn’t last year’s like a Cashmere and you’d be quite lucky if it even got you through one season!
