It used to be that buying a suit required an expert carefully measuring and fitting you, altering a bit here and a bit there, until you had a perfect, one of a kind suit unique to you. That was then, this is now, and today it’s easier than you think. No more need to stand stiff and bored waiting as a little busy man jots down the measurements from your chest and waist. No more embarrassment of having to endure a stranger poking around while measuring your inside leg. It’s now lot easier and a lot more convenient. Of course, you do have to be measured, and it isn’t easy to measure yourself, so it’s best to ask a friend to help. Remember, there’s the inside leg to be measured, so be sure you only ask a friend who won’t be embarrassed by having to hold the end of a tape measure against your crotch! If you are a regular suit wearer and you’ve bought a suit before, then it should be easy to do it again. You should know your usual size, and unless your weight, and therefore size, has changed since you purchased your last suit, you can simple quote that size. The mix and match approach is the real key to success. With mix and match there’s no compromise on sizes and you can achieve something close to a made to measure suit at the fraction of the cost. You can also buy extra trousers to get more life from your suit as jackets often stay looking great long after the trousers have started to fade. In summary, purchasing a suit is simple and can even be done online. Most credible shops will allow returns if you get your measurements wrong but to be honest it’s more usual to get it right! The mix and match approach will also ensure a great fit and allow you to buy extra trousers to make your suit last longer. David A Robinson Posted December 3rd, 2008 by Hannah.
