Before having my first child I had no idea what a body shaper was. I was petite and ran five miles a day everyday up until the age of 28, and never imagined that my body would change drastically enough to want to hide parts of it. Having children changes everything quickly especially that taught and toned physique I so prized. So after a full year of trying to lose every bit of baby weight I’d gain during my first pregnancy, I’d accomplished what I deemed to be the impossible… 30lbs. of baby fat gone! My dieting and fairly disciplined workout schedule would allow me to get back into all of my work clothes, and more importantly allow me to fit into a fabulous size appropriate ball gown for my husband’s company New Years Eve gala. The one thing I hadn’t counted on is the one truth every first time mother learns sooner or later, the body you knew before child birth is a virtual stranger afterward. Something told me to try the dress on a couple of weeks before the gala, and I was giddy with anticipation at just how fabulous the dress would look especially since I’d never had a chance to wear it. To my surprise the fit was just wrong. The tummy area was tight, and there were the beginnings of rolls along my back, and to top it off the hip area of the dress was tight as well! Before child birth I’d never even had hips! I was in absolute disbelief and despair as the form fitting dress had fit me well not more than a year ago. Needless to say there was no way I could tone those areas in a week to fit into the dress and look the way I imagined. I had hoped it was just water retention but it wasn’t even that time of the month. I complained to my best friend about my dilemma and she suggested I look into shapewear. I’ll admit that initially I was none too fond at the idea of wearing a girdle, as in my mind’s eye I pictured a bulky piece of clothing reminiscent of the Victorian era. It wasn’t until I discovered the wonder which is Spanx line of body shaper products that I came to appreciate the miracles these simple garments could perform. I purchased a SPANX Hide Sleek HiRise Mid Thigh body shaper and viola it was like discovering my old physique. The dress fit as well as I remembered with the shaper smoothing out the problem areas I’d seen earlier in the week but remaining undetectable to the naked eye.! Originally I worried that the garments would restrict my ability to move freely and be uncomfortable. My worries were whisked away by the comfort and breathability of the fabric, as well as its ability to keep moisture from clinging to me after an entire evening of dancing well into the New Year’s morning hours! So while I do my part to try to tame these newly problem areas on my body, I at least know now that there is an option for any clothing occasion to make sure I’m able to look my best in any piece of apparel I own. If you’re having the same changing body issues yourself, then body shapers may be the answer to give you piece of mind for quick wardrobe fixes.
