This question can be posed and answered a number of ways in a number of settings with a variety of different answers. Does wearing a short skirt and tight blouse mean anything other than it feels good on the woman who’s wearing it? What do you really know about her? She could be dressed that way because she is going on a date or going out with her girlfriends. She could be wearing that to upset her father or impress her boyfriend. Only she really knows.
How about a guy wearing scrub pants to the store; is that a man who works in the medical profession or just a man who likes loose fitting clothes? Is he a doctor or a nurse? It’s hard to tell just from the clothes a person wears. All you really know for sure is if he looks good in them. You don’t know if he has anything to do with the medical profession, whether he has money or not, or where he fits into society.
Speaking of the medical profession, what decisions does a person make when deciding what to wear to work? Do you wear the old standard or is green not your color? It is like that old adage that if you stand up tall or sit up straight with your shoulders back and your head up high and you smile, there is no possible way that you can feel depressed. If you put on a clean pair of vibrant scrubs and you put a smile on your face, you will be what you are wearing, bright and cheerful. If you have not been through a scrub catalog in awhile you may be surprised to find all of the variety from which to choose and with which to brighten your day.
Now there is a time and a place for dark colors and you can even find scrubs in dark colors if that is your choice of outfits for the day. For instance, if you want to be taken seriously and want to be viewed as believable, they say you can’t go wrong with black or navy. Try putting on a navy suit and smile. It doesn’t matter how broad your smile is, you still will not be seen as a happy go lucky kind of person. Unlike that person who is wearing yellow scrubs with cartoon characters all over them. Serious and believable is good and has its place and so does light and fun. The reason the IBM Corporation makes their employees dress in a shirt and tie is that it does make a difference how one is viewed in the workplace.
