Of all the known knitting fibers there are in the world, the lightest and softest are what are Angora fibers. This type of fiber is produced from the harvesting of the plush and silky coats of the rabbit breed Angora. The spinning material that come from this production has made different clothing garments luxurious for hundreds of years. Beyond its beauty, there is another advantage. The warmth of this material is unmatched. Studies have shown it is seven times warmer than the wool of a sheep. These qualities of Angora wool have it considered a top brand product by the fiber production market.

The fibers range from 10 to 13 microns thick, and each micron is only one millionth of a meter long. The special feel of these fibers is due to them having a texture that is soft and silky. Additionally, the fibers are hollow, and this allows them to have a certain lofty, floating feel to them. The fibers will ’stand out’ from the garment giving a “fur-halo” like fluffiness to any sweater, cardigan, scarf, etc.

The Angora wool has a certain fluffy lightness that has an incredibly comfortable feel on skin. The coziness of it is in addition to how it is warm without being heavy. Unlike heavy coats, this material will not weigh you down. This is accomplished by the wool allowing the skin to breathe while simultaneously absorbing moisture. This is what produces the body’s steady temperature at the surface of the skin which then allows for a comforting, warm feeling. An even further benefit is that blood circulation is improved which produces a therapeutic effect advantageous for those with types of conditions including cold painful joints, muscle tension, or circulatory disorders.

The Angora rabbit is a soft natured and docile creature. What is great is that they experience no harm throughout any of the wool production. The year round treatment they must receive is of the utmost care as this is required for them to produce their highest quality fibers. These animals make great pets, are a hit with children, and they give us their gift of their plush, silky coats.

It is truly a unique and special moment when one first touches an Angora wool garment. It is difficult to forget. If one’s aim is to have beautiful and luxurious clothing attire that is comforting, warm, and natural, Angora rabbit wool is easily said the best available.
